Engineering Intern

BalkanID, a venture backed cybersecurity company backed by top tier investors is looking for an Engineering Intern with product/engineer/developer mindset. If you enjoy solving challenging problems and breaking through barriers, then you will enjoy this opportunity to work with a strong entrepreneurial team with successful prior exits, building a disruptive set of capabilities in identity/access management.

The candidate will be responsible for working closely with our engineering team to understand the unique needs of each client and develop solutions that meet those needs and integrating them with our internal systems. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced startup environment and contribute to the success of a rapidly-growing company.

What You'll Do:

• Building and developing prototypes, solutions for customers, solving engineering problems that meet their needs and integrating them with our core platform.
• Help setup, integration and deployment of the BalkanID product in client tenants along with associated integrations.
• Communicates implementation and product details internally as well with customers at the technical and/or functional level appropriate for the situation.
• Works closely with Product and Engineering teams to help meet requirements.
• Works with internal stakeholders on user testing, debugging, support and maintenance.
• Develops and maintains custom code for unique customer requirements (for example: identity extractors for applications etc.)

Qualifications:

• Currently in sophomore/pre-final/final year pursuing a Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent degree.
• Strong Computer Science fundamentals with a knack of finding solutions to unconventional problems.
• Hands-on experience with at least one programming language such as Python, Go is a must.
• Willing to learn security concepts and practices such as knowledge of authentication, security and reliability.
• Experience with one of more database systems (SQL, NoSQL, etc.) is a plus.
• Understand architectural principles such as cloud native micro-services, API first development, multi-tenancy, etc.
• Hands-on experience with at least one of the cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus.
• Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes is a plus.
• Previous Experience in a Product/SaaS startup company is a great plus.

• Self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit and a strong sense of ownership. Must be highly self-motivated and willing to take initiative to drive projects forward.
• The person has high integrity and is results-oriented.
• Willing to roll-up their sleeves and dive deep into problem/solution discussions and find creative solutions to unconventional problems.
• Strong written and verbal communication; good interpersonal skills are an absolute requirement.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; exhibits creative thinking and is outcome/deliverable focused.
• Team player, ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.

Location/Travel:

• Position is 100% remote globally with flexible working hours.

Compensation and Commitment

Our internships are only full time but remote (you can work from anywhere) and require a minimum of 3 months commitment. Our internships may not pay as much cash as large companies, but they are always paid. Interns also receive equity in the company (typically not common in the industry).
